So by now you may have read on our myspace blog, that a few weeks ago we had an impromptu screening of ”Apocalypto” at the shop.

In as few words as possible I can only say that the film is intense, life changing, and influential in my decision to bring in KISER, a New York brand with designs below that went hand-in-hand with some of the imagery and feelings conjured up by “Apocalypto”.

See we here at Extra Butter are all about the cinema…sneakers too, but art & style overall. On November 27th Sir Bam la Roc and I went to Huntington Village’s Cinema Arts Centre (one of the ONLY places on Long Island to see the quality movies - independents, cult classics, etc.) to see a 25th anniversary screening of Wild Style, which was an event that served as an amalgamation of our various passions.

Thanks to the good folks at the Cinema Arts Centre we had the pleasure of meeting Wild Style’s writer/director Charlie Ahearn and discussing how the culture he unearthed is still being lived and is very prevalent in our culture.

Note: Both happened to be rocking Red Suedes - I went with colors from the film’s logo, Bam with the Ken Swift tribute

If you haven’t seen this movie - you’re probably lacking a key root or two - like Mr. Lif says on “Enters the Colossus” - “niggas need to go back and watch WILD STYLE - hip hop has arisen”. This couldn’t be a more necessary film to watch (again and again) and learn about hip-hop from an original standpoint, not the contemporary idea of mainstream hip-hop… and Charlie’s book - “Wild Style - The Sampler” exemplifies the film’s pure & true influence on our music, b-boying, graffiti, DJing, and hip hop culture today.

Be on the lookout this summer as we hope to work with the Cinema Arts Centre and bring more features and events like this to the surface!!

Friday night was the first of much more to go down at Extra Butter. I can’t thank everyone enough for coming down, supporting, dancing, reppin’, and being a beginning piece of history. Rawthentix, Garbege, ONLY, Special Sauce, Jordan Brand, Renarts, Renee and Defusion Hair Salon, The Aquarian, AS1, Diego 2SA, X-FENZ, RVC skate crew, Danny (NAH SON), Wowwww, Rodney, Daniela, Hasney, Kervin, Lenny, my sister, Soul Science, Elite Dance Centre, TB Crew, Chosen Few, and everyone else I apologize for forgetting…..my sincerest thanks!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone…

Today’s our big day - our official Grand Opening….

Combine the elements - it’s the day after Thanksgiving (and I’m extremely thankful for what Extra Butter is and is becoming), it’s Black Friday, it’s our Red Carpet Affair Grand Opening party, the O.G. Spiz’ikes come out, and it also happens to be the 23rd.

I’m looking forward more than anything to celebrating with everyone that means so much to me and dancing all night long. Also - Doc Munz & Jazz have labeled it - The “fu!%in’ fashion show/smashin’ show”!!

For those who can’t make it - I appreciate your support throughout as well…

my cousin’s fam sent me us a Money Tree!!

Before you sickos get any ideas….visitations and pics of the store would have you know, that Extra Butter is cloaked with luxurious red curtains. The smooth texture makes it a must touch, and the overall look is a neckbreaker…

A couple of things I came across this week highlight women and their prominence in our culture that I wanted to share with you and yours…

First, is the website nitrolicious.com…
The site shines light on everything female from sneaker releases, fashion, places to eat, things to do, and features on females that are certainly ones to look up to.

I don’t even like to have to specify when a role model is female, but in this day and age, where I find a lot of females are popularizing the likes of Paris, Lindsay, and those similar…I find it somewhat neccessary to point out women who serve as far better role models, and people to look up to in general.
The link above is to nitrolicious’ interview with Samantha Alonso of FRUITION. Samantha is an extremely intelligent and caring friend of mine who drops science on everything spiritual, individual, community building, and style, in an interview that’s sure to inspire people regardless of gender.

ALSO…
In the latest issue of SNEAKER FREAKER magazine (available at Extra Butter), there is an outstanding article by Christine Su - sending out a poignant message to the sneaker world from the female sneakerhead perspective. More reading for ladies to identify with and motivate themselves to make noise in the cultures they care for.
