RIP Frosty Freeze… True Original Character

April 04th, 2008 | Category: Now Playing...

Like any terribly unfortunate news, all the small pestering things immediately vanish. I was at a print shop vexed about having to wait for my poor poster prints to be remedied when I get a text from Cinematic; “Damn, he passed away this morning.” Mention of whom wasn’t even necessary- someone whose been on our mind lately, out of concern and anticipation for the fund raiser jam scheduled for next week.

There’s way too much to go into as far as how I feel about this loss, I know the same can be said from Cinematic. Being a part of the chapter of Rocksteady that helped bring bboying to pop culture, features in movies, the very first bboy to be on the cover of a magazine. These are all the obvious of what can be remembered about Frosty. But what’s essentially more important is how much he’s influenced the bboy community. Though many in the culture may not associate him as the best with technique or flashy moves, he undoubtedly brought character and unique style to the floor. He said it best himself, “My style of breaking is basically original and official.” He showed that you can be yourself and go far- apply your genuine personality productively to an art and make something of it. Without people such as Frosty Freeze, showmanship and energy would not be an integral part of becoming a well-rounded bboy.

And even more inspiring- he was the pinnacle of humble- contributing to the culture by spreading knowledge of true bboy history along with his own personal experiences. Even before he might have realized he was going to be remembered as a precedent, Frosty inherently understood the importance of teaching and giving back. Coming from someone who directly helps with the youth as dance instructors, we know how important this is as a role model. Such an attribute cannot be taught, and Frosty always had it in him. Innovate, break boundaries, teach, contribute… This is the definition of pioneer. Respect to everything that he was and forever will be. Condolences to his family, he will always be remember through you and all the true fans of original character.

The deeper we get…

April 03rd, 2008 | Category: New Arrivals

Back again with it’s Spring ’08 Deliver 2.1 – 10 DEEP follows up on it’s initial arrival to Extra Butter (link back to the “Champion Life Formal” post a few weeks back), with these pieces below, all bold in construction and design, the signature way 10 Deep does things….East River Navigation Cap – a refreshing 5-panel model to switch up your fitted routine.
046.JPG

The Big Bucks nylon jacket…whether you like Michael Redd, Todd Day (in my case), or relate to the double-delivery baller statement being made here, this jacket is undeniably butter.

044.JPG

Classico Crewneck – you can’t tell me this doesn’t take you back to the days where Rae and Ghost were slinging slang unheard of on the legendary “purple tape”. Kangaroo pocket in the front, and ventilation features, inside mesh lining, and side-zipper defeat any notion of this being a basic crewneck.

Live Larger – extend the solid 10 Deep philosophy.

Truth Hurts – period.032.JPG

Prize Fighter – champion status for sure – “victory” is finely embroidered on the back.

WE are the champions……my friend.
stay smooth….
