Air Jordan L’style One

September 15th, 2009 | Category: New Arrivals

One of the highlights for the fall from Air Jordan is a new silhouette called the “L’style One“. This super high cut model features a very subtle perforation design of the AJ wings logo on the upper, wax laces for that dressier feeling, and of course the butteriest of leathers.

The sole replicates the classic Air Jordan 1 with an added touch of vis-air. Perfect for getting grown & sexy when you’re off the court and getting into…whatever you’re getting into.

September 15th, 2009 | Category: New Arrivals

Newest member to the NBA Hall of Fame did Dominique and the rest of the Atlanta Hawks dirty by dropping 61 points on April 16, 1987!! In addition to the rich black leather, embossed Jordan wings logo, extra set of black laces, and chenille swoosh, this is also the premier of the fat tongue inside the AJ1 Highs.

Extra Butter Speaker Leak #1

September 11th, 2009 | Category: Speaker Leak

 eb-music.jpg

Evicurean: Sean Rose is my break from the monotonous wave of auto-tune and non-meaningful, boasting lyricism. Hailing from the Sin City, Sean has a unique style and flavor that has not yet been seen or heard. An auditory feast, his verbal athleticism is unmatched, combining deep, thought provoking metaphors with savory articulation. With a new project under way entitled “For what it’s worth“,  Sean is stepping outside of the mainstream box to provide his listeners with quality and inspirational music. His first single off the project “Celebration” is an ode to this exact feeling of stepping outside of the common expectation and making it your own way. Visit The Rosewood to hear more from Sean. Here is Celebration and a few of my other favorite tracks by Sean Rose. CHEERS!

Roose: One of my new favorite artists in the industry today is Mayer Hawthorne. Born just miles away from Motown, the Michigan native is surely influenced by Motown legends like The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson. You can tell by the way he puts his soul into the music which differs from the mainstream sounds filled with voice synthesizers and weak beats that Evicurean already mentioned. Instead, Hawthorne uses a lot of a cappella and four part harmonies, which is not only unique, but showcases true talent and his natural voice, which I feel is best displayed on “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out”, which you can see the video for here. I think he sounds like mixture of  Eddie Kendricks of “The Temptations” and Brian Wilson from “The Beach Boys”. His debut album off Stones Throw Records, “A Strange Arrangement” is out now.

Cinematic: I’m jaded by a lot of what’s out there, I mainly listen to older stuff, and if I listen to the radio it’s usually talk about sports. I find myself on a seemingly insatiable quest for something to get me open. Thankfully Pseudo Slang’sWe’ll Keep Looking” has ended that search. PS front man, Emcee Sick spits effortlessly laid back, thought provoking flows riddled with infectiously clever lines you’ll have yourself reciting over and over. “Weak emcees always messing with me – smack ‘em back to the future with this blast from the past so hot like it drops next week“…is a quote off the head nodder “Yes Doubt” available for download hereTone Atlas leaves you hungry for more each time he touches the mic, but flavors this album overall with positively the coolest, jazzy-smooth production I’ve heard in years. The buttery feel of “We’ll Keep Looking”, makes this a lifestyle staple, getting listens during morning routine, vibing out at the shop, cooking dinner with my love, and that chill-out night drive home. More tracks can be heard on the PseudoSlang myspace.

Alex: My choice is Discovery. I discovered.. er.. found them through the bands Vampire Weekend and Ra Ra Riot. A dude from Vampire weekend (Rostam Batmanglij) and a dude from Ra Ra Riot (Wesley Miles) joined together to start a new project called Discovery. I was already hyped to hear their full album when I kept their first two released songs “Osaka Loop Line” and “Orange Shirt” on repeat. I actually ended up finding the album by following Deradoorian (who I will probably write about in the future), as I had forgotten the release date and Discovery saw a short hitatus on the iTunes. This is just the fresh and innovative type of album I was looking for. A mix between indie, electronic, and even a hint of dance. “LP” may be criticized due to excessive use of auto-tune and voice effects, but as opposed to most rappers or ‘singers’, they use it RIGHT (and I usually hate auto-tune). As this is currently my favorite album and band, I definitely suggest a listen. Check out their myspace here.

Air Jordan Sixty Plus “Laney High School”

September 11th, 2009 | Category: New Arrivals

The latest Air Jordan Sixty Plus has arrived  and will be available next Saturday, September 19th.

The shoe’s colorway stems from the highschool colors that MJ attended in North Carolina, Emsley A. Laney High School. The “Laney” colorway is a famed design gaining popularity from the Air Jordan V’s that released in 2000.

Take a look at the pics and a video that show more of the anatomy that makes up the design of the Sixty Plus.

Congrats to MJ…today he is being inducted into the Hall of Fame…but somehow the honor doesn’t seem to do all his accolades and significance justice!!

Adidas Superstar II Redman

September 08th, 2009 | Category: New Arrivals

“You better check the yellow pages under smooth $#!*, cuz Red ain’t down for the bull$#!*”

True, even though he’s on that buttery smooth flow on his many “Soopaman Lova’s”.  I mean Redman’s been doing it since the famed year of 1992, and has been one of Def Jam’s most successful artists – from film appearances, to acclaimed projects with Def Squad, and of course Method Man (coming up next!).

The Redman Adidas Superstar II features a hearty red suede and little specs of red on the outsole that take you back to his debut LP “Whut? Thee Album. The shoes also come with a second pair of infrared fat laces to match the heel tab and binding accent.

Mishka “Born Under a Bad Sign” Lookbook by Extra Butter

September 04th, 2009 | Category: New Arrivals,Now Playing...

As Alex already mentioned a few days before, our interest in Astrology is already well known, but to bring in a new Mishka collection (that we always love to get creative with) that happens to be themed in astrology…well the stars must have been aligned on this one.

The vision I had for this lookbook came from seeing blacklight posters at Utopia or Spencers as a kid. The neon colors fused with the black felt texture of the poster made for this otherworldly look once you got under the purple haze of a blacklight. In addition to Grateful Dead, hippie things, and other psychedelic stuff, Astrology-themed designs were frequently seen on these types of posters, thus leading to our inspiration behind the project. And of course the outstanding artistry Mishka put together for each zodiac sign.

To make things even more astrological, we decided to use friends whose actual astrology sign corresponded to the shot they’re in. For example: Our dear friend L’amour Supreme – the designer of the insane Scorpio t-shirt you’ll see below, was actually born on April 28, 19**, making him a Taurus. So that madman behind the mask in the Taurus photo is actually him keeping things cosmically consistent, and the same for the rest of the photographs of our stargazer friends.

The collection can be viewed in it’s entirety in-store and onlineSaturday, September 5th!! As we mentioned before, from 2 to 5pm, Anchored in Astrology’s Debra Clement will be providing FREE sample readings and birth chart info. Are you a Virgo that acts surprisingly Gemini? Well perhaps your Ascendant sits with the twins. Or in relationships, do you find yourself overly romantic…in love with being in love? Maybe you’re Venus is in Libra…and sitting in the 7th house of marriage and partnerships!?
In addition to your sun sign, you also possess a moon sign, rising sign, and signs for each of the other 8 planets in our solar system that dictate other more specific facets of your personality. And then there’s houses and aspects…sound confusing? Well come by this Saturday with your birth date, time of birth, and city in which you were born, and Debra will be on hand to guide you.

So without further ado….
We start out with the first fire sign, Aries (March 21 – April 19), taking a gender twist on the t-shirt’s text that reads “I am responsible for the lives of those 2 girls last week!!”. Being ruled by god of war Mars, and in true Aries nature,  Victoria took conflict with 2 fellow Aries – Roose (“Volley Cable-Knit Sweater”) & Sycko (Loveless Plaid Flannel) to a whole new deadly degree.

aries720.jpg

Earth sign Taurus (April 20 – May 20) usually gets pegged with being the stubborn sign of the zodiac. While this may be true, I think a more interesting fact is that it’s ruling planet happens to be Venus; the Roman goddess of beauty and the arts. Always marveled by the extensive portfolio of L’amour Supreme’s work and artistic genius…this was an easy and natural fit. And so is the dark teal “Loveless Fleece M-65″ hooded jacket he’s rocking.

taurus720.jpg

When I first thought of Gemini (May 21 – June 20), I immediately said – “Do I know any twins, let alone Geminis??“. I don’t, but I do know two air sign Geminis that are similar in not only being futuristic with their fashion sense, but will also leave you destroyed on the dance floor. I’ve seen fellow Soul Science brother Bam La Roc smoke quick-fast footwork for years. Pair that up with Soraya Lundy’s resume already including being featured in the upcoming movie “Step Up 3 in 3D”, Daddy Yankee’s video for “Prende”, and also being the recent winner of the “Look Who Came to Dance” female freestyle battle.

gemini720.jpg

You know what Cancer’s (June 21 – July 22) are…they’re ruled by the moon which enhances sensitivity, kindness, imagination, and intuitiveness. When I think of Cancers, family immediately comes to mind as I think of my mom. True family to all of us for several years now, Pete – master crab over at legendary shop Special Sauce, was an easy and honorary choice for the lead water sign.

cancer720.jpg

Cue the Macho Man’s entrance music!! The King is here…or Queen rather, with our friend and Queen Leo Gabby representing for females and fire signs. She was also the MVP on the losing team for the Fire Signs in our BBQ/Board Games bash a couple weeks ago. Mishka’s Skinny Digital designed the sun-ruled Lion up with a dub-style take showing off their natural exuberance.

leo720.jpg

Mercury rules intelligence, and that could not be more evident amongst this super Virgo (August 23 – September 22) couple, Megan and Evan (wearing “Undertone Chambray shirt” and “Mariner Pull-over”).  In a rare appearance of romance and purity, the earth sign Virgos display a sweeter side to this twisted Mishka astrological galaxy.

virgo720.jpg

Then there’s the diplomatic, easygoing, and harmonious Libra (September 23 – Octoboer 22). The design screams METAL! But the previous adjectives I used to describe this air sign synch up rather well with the other Libras I know, which was a mismatch for the ruthless metal look. But then I remembered our friend Kent. No Redeeming Social Value Kent. Enough said.

libra720.jpg

Deadly creatures of the water, Scorpios (October 23 – November 21) are the Pluto-ruled, secretive , yet magnetic signs of the zodiac.  The fatal prowess was enhanced by Scorpios D’arcy and Deana, sporting the Mishka “Crime For All Seasons” sweater, “Black Magic” New Era, “Hudson Plaid Belt”, and of course L’amour’s sadistic “Scorpio” design.

scorpio720.jpg

As challenge-seeking, freedom-loving, energetic explorers of the zodiac – Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) are the Jupiter-ruled fire signs that everyone loves to have around. No stranger to being picked on in his “Loveless Plaid Flannel” and suede-brimmed “Death Adder” New Era, Alex (the wunderkind responsible for this fine photography and graphic work) gets shot in the apple by the innocent Sagittarius archer in the background, Bree-ski.

sagittarius720.jpg

The zodiac’s steady, sure-footed goats – Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) is represented by a demonic Baphomet. Which is a perfect fit for Christina, of our neighborhood female favorites Milk & Honey. Just kidding…Christina and her chic & stylish shop couldn’t be anymore opposite of that devilish creature on the shirt. Nevertheless, a special appearance is made by super astrologer Debra Clement, who wants no part in her fellow earth sign’s satanic ways.

capricorn720.jpg

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) is an air sign represented by the water bearer, or in this case, a wicked Medusa-like woman ripping apart her chest pouring water into skulls.  Our friend Samantha is original and individualistic, making her a nice fit for the unconventional, inventive, Uranus-ruled air sign.

aquarius720.jpg

The 12th and last sign, is the Neptune-ruled Pisces (February 19 – March 20).  As the final sign of the zodiac, these fish encompass the traits of the preceding 11 signs, in addition to creative, emotional, mystical, and intuitive powers. All of this plus our “old soul” individuality basically make us the best! And by us I mean the Feisty Pisces – Jason and Jacqueline (the talent behind the hairstyles, makeup, and assistance to my creative direction).

10 Deep Fall: Proud to be a Problem DELIVERY 2

September 03rd, 2009 | Category: New Arrivals

10 Deep will teach you the ways of the unruly. The second problematic delivery has arrived! Me and Roose decided to be a little more unstructured this time to add to the energy that 10 Deep has put into this theme.

Bad Seed Crewneck: Sporting an oatmeal heather colorway, an easy choice if you are looking for something toned down but are tired of the classic white, grey, or black. Patches and embroidery are definitely a popular choice this season for the Deep Set. The upper-left arm features a blacked out upside-down flag embroidery, while the upper-right arm features a broken horseshoe facing upward, luck broken!  Don’t look so sad Roose, it’s not all bad news, we just got in this shipment of 10 Deep!

10d-fw2-1.jpg

10d-fw2-2.jpg

10d-fw2-2b.jpg

XDMC Modified Zip Hood: The cotton version of a motorcycle jacket. Am I just blind or is this the first time I have ever seen this done?! 10 Deep pulls through with the ingenuity, and also adds modifications on the left chest featuring pins and embroidery (yes, the pins come with the jacket!). A soon to be classic, and an easy choice for an alternative to a regular hoody this fall.

10d-fw2-5.jpg

10d-fw2-6.jpg

WORLD CLASS WRECKING CREW: First place or last place, you’ll still get wrecked.

10d-fw2-3a.jpg

10d-fw2-4.jpg

Ace of Spades New Era: A tonal black satin ribbon surrounds the hat, holding the infamous Ace of Spades. Good luck.

10d-fw2-12.jpg

Rumble Fish Baseball Jacket: It’s hard to say, but I’d consider this to be one of the highlights of the collection. This thing is NUTTY. Red body, cream sleeves, and black trim with yellow stripes?! Not to mention the embroidery and patches… wow. Don’t mess with a Rumble Fish.
10d-fw2-7.jpg

10d-fw2-8.jpg

10d-fw2-9.jpg

Brighton Convertible Flannel: Flannels. A staple to the fall/winter wardrobe. Whether you’re chilling on Coney Island during those colder days, or just posting up locally, this flannel will make a mighty good choice.

10d-fw2-10.jpg

10d-fw2-11.jpg

Undisputed New Era: A little more subtle then rocking a huge title belt around your waist, this New Era will still have you recognized as the champ.
