Closer Look #4: Extra Butter “Official Selection” Tank Top

August 31st, 2011 | Category: New Arrivals,Now Playing...

Not many things are guaranteed in this life. I mean, Rex Ryan can guarantee all the Super Bowl victories he wants, and the Mayan calendar can ensure the end of days, but nothing is for certain. However, if there is one thing I’ve learned during my short time on this planet, it’s that everything looks official with tiny leaves around it — guaranteed. It’s one of the few known universal truths. So with that being said, I’m officially selecting the Official Selection tank top for the “Closer Look” series.

This tank top, or singlet as they call it in Australia, is one of the most official pieces to drop this summer. From the classy navy and gold colorway, to the extra soft cotton, the Official Selection tank top is a summer triumph — indicated by the laurel wreaths around the Extra Butter insignia. For me, the allure of this piece lies in its simplicity and minimal design. It’s perfect for showing off your guns or getting rid of that farmer’s tan. This tank top is so versatile that you could rock it at a pool party in the Hamptons or a pick-up basketball game with Kevin Durant at The Rucker while he drops 86 on you.

Being that we’re all cinema connoisseurs here at Extra Butter, we are easily influenced by film and the culture surrounding it. The inspiration for this piece comes from the “Official Selection” of films chosen to be shown at film festivals across the globe. These films represent the best of the best and are often instant classics. We’re hoping that the Official Selection tank top lives up to its name and becomes a summer classic for you and your crew.

This weekend the third installation in the AJ3 series will be hitting the Extra Butter shelves, and this retro will be in the newest colorway, Stealth. The Stealth Air Jordan 3′s have been leaking over the internet as early as last Fall and now they are finally here.

The Air Jordan 3 Retro “Stealth” tweaks the usual AJ3 layout but still holds onto the important features that make it a AJ3 in the first place. Instead of the usual tumbled leather upper we find a stealth Grey nubuck which is wrapped in a Light Graphite suede and the signature Elephant print found on the toe and heel of the shoe. Black and Red hints can be found throughout the shoe along with the uniquely White outsole and White laces which gives the sneaker a peculiar pop. Air Force 1 Low – Obsidian Patent Toe

August 29th, 2011 | Category: Brands,New Arrivals,Nike

The Air Forces keep rolling…you know – these fresh ones with the patent toe. We’re a few years removed from the popularity of the all patent leather shoes, but these editions get the mix just right. Fusing the patent leather toe and eyestay with some classy perforated leather makes for a smooth combo. I’m sure the “obsidian”, navy color will be popular as well as the Yankees get ready for their post season run….

Talaria Boot Quickstrike

August 26th, 2011 | Category: Brands,New Arrivals,Nike

With summer quickly coming to an end, we get a Nike ACG offering of mythical proportions. A limited edition quickstrike release, the Talaria Boot is available just in time for fall. You see, this isn’t your ordinary all-terrain boot. It draws it’s inspiration from the winged sandals worn by the Greek Messenger God Hermes. According to ancient lore, they were made of imperishable gold and lent to Perseus to help defeat Medusa.

The 21st Century version of these badboys rival their mythical predecessors with reflective 3m chunks merged into the laces that shine like lightning bolts when the light hits them. The “Talaria” off set signature on the heel is a standout, along with the lines that wave throughout the midsole. Plus, both shoes sport hyper pop colors fused with darker bases keeping the tradition of the ACG line alive. An exciting quickstrike indeed…your outdoor, all conditions gear winner is here! Swing through to scoop them before they’re gone!

Closer Look #3: Extra Butter “A League of Our Own” Tee

August 25th, 2011 | Category: New Arrivals,Now Playing...

Now if at first glance at this shirt you started to think about Tom Hanks, Rosie O’Donnell, Madonna and Geena Davis, that might make you a little bit weird… But you’d also be right on the money. This summertimey baseball tee drew it’s inspiration from the 1992 star studded classic “A League of Their Own”, with our own little Buttery flip that is. This tee was made with a particular train of thought in mind, for all of those who feel like their team has a star studded line up that stands apart from their peers, those who feel like they have a unit that stays in their own lane and breaks new ground, those who feel like they reside in a different realm than their competition,  in a league of their own.

But let’s not be confused here, this tee isn’t a braggadocios piece. No, far from it. This piece is a celebration of unity and a mantra for any strong team that moves in unison. So if you’re club is putting up major league numbers, you’re batting .400, and your dugout is stacked, then knock one out of the park with this Wet Hot Buttery Summer tee.

Closer Look #2: Extra Butter “ButterSlam” Tee

August 23rd, 2011 | Category: New Arrivals,Now Playing...
It’s easy to recognize the late 80′s and early 90′s as sources of inspiration for streetwear graphic tees. It’s only natural since this was the timeframe of our developing years; as was most tastemakers and influencers of our culture.  But some may also argue that this period was simply the golden years of entertainment- music, movies, and especially sports. But there’s one overlooked sporting genre that most certainly experienced its golden years back then; and once reminded of, almost everyone growing up during this time can attest to as an integral part of all our upbringing… and that’s wrestling.

I find it no coincidence of how strong each of the Butter member’s love for the former WWF is.  It’s just another element of science that bonds us.  Hours are spent reminiscing of our favorite wrestlers, costumes, entrances, signature moves.  Though debates may arise, one thing is for certain- one wrestling event we all looked forward to was Summer Slam.  In a concoction of words from Vince McMahon in his good ol’ commentating days – the annual event would bring nothing but explosive, spectacular, - the description for the perfect summer we all chased as youth.

And so, for EB’s first summer collection, it was only right we pay homage to not only wrestling but one of it’s most legendary events of all time.  The original Summer Slam logo reappropriated with Extra Butter branding, in a traditional old school, smaller scale screen print.  The royal blue tee calls reference to the older WWF wresting rings, while giving a solid base for the graphic to really pop.  If you were a wrestling fanatic as much as we were, this is a must-cop.  And while you’re at it, chime in on our on-going conversation with your own favorite wrestling memories.

Fall 2011 TOMS – Lads and Ladies

August 22nd, 2011 | Category: New Arrivals,TOMS

It’s not often I buy boots. Usually just the look of working your way into a pair and having your foot swallowed by high durability is already off-putting enough for me personally. It’s much easier to just slip on a pair of low tops and call it a day. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the look of boots. That’s why I was pleasantly surprised by these new Toms that came in, called the Highlands. At first they’re viewed as a mid-cut chukka-esque boot, rolled down and exposing its fleece lining. But unsnap the tongue and roll up the back and you’ve got a high top silhouette to rock out with. Options! We also got in a pair of Desert Botas, similar to the Highlands look except it’s a mid-cut that’s been stripped to simplicity. A charcoal canvas desert boot never did anyone no harm.

Three for the ladies: a pair of Cordones and two Classics. Here, it’s all about the textiles. Seeing the classy charcoal English Herringbone complemented by brass eyelets and waxed laces is already getting me excited for other sartorial items unacceptable in warm weather. There’s a pair of Classics using the time-honored Scottish Houndstooth pattern in a not so traditional way. The Toms designers hit the zoom-in key a few times to give you a large, abstracted example of what these tiny teeth really look like. And of course, another Classic comes in corduroy, having a comely camel colorway. Too much alliteration? I think not.
