Extra Butter x Publish “Martin” Snakeskin Jogger Pant

June 17th, 2013 | Category: Brands,New Arrivals,Now Playing...,Publish

Since day 1, we have been fans of Publish Brand. We’ve had our eyes fixed on their clothing since we first caught glimpse of it, and once we got around to carrying and wearing the clothes at the shop, we gained a greater appreciation for the quality craftsmanship, and the timelessness in their every piece.

As we’ve gotten to know our Publish friends through the years, they’ve grown accustomed to our wacky ways. Head Publish-er, Michael, used the word “misfits” to describe us…a nod to our eccentricity and group individuality. With a daring dash of attitude, we kept that in mind when developing the “Martin” Snakeskin Jogger pant, taking cues from snakes themselves. While it’s patterned skin may appear a bit loud, especially when applied to pants, a snake itself can have a menacing presence as a venemous threat. The fact that it’s also the “Year of the Snake”, a theme we’re very into and invested in also served as a source of inspiration.

Together, we aspired to create something fearless, one of a kind, and stylish – with the “jogger pant”, an absolute favorite of the EB team and many of our patrons. Made of a lightweight twill and is printed with a light brown cobra snakeskin pattern, the “Martin” Snakeskin Jogger Pant will be available Tuesday, June 18th in-store and online at 12pm noon.

Publish Spring ’13 Delivery 2

March 21st, 2013 | Category: Brands,New Arrivals,Publish

New Publish has arrived to wind up the Spring collection, and there’s no sign of these guys losing momentum in becoming a standard for contemporary menswear. We’ve carefully curated the selection of pieces that highlight the season’s aesthetics, but also provide variety to seamlessly mix and match for numerous outfits and looks.

Let’s start with the one of the statement pieces of the entire seasonal collection, the Boulder. An M-65 inspired jacket with contemporary flair a la floral pattern says you fancy… but still mean business. Double chest pockets, a nicely placed back pocket, and tonal drawstrings to ensure a good fit.

Want some more cut & dry, but still Publish in style? Let’s try the Henderson. This technical inspired pullover anorak gets a classy makeover with brushed canvas, contrast hardware and and sleek lines for a no-frill attitude. The Moss colorway still gives it its outdoors vibe, but sets the tone for the rest of your attire.

Spring weather seems to be late, but as the temperatures inevitably rise, shortsleeve buttondowns will be in full effect. The Milsap is a lightweight cotton with vintage faded vertical stripes and tonal quill logo embroidery.

The Jost is a super soft cotton with polka dot knit top that’s simple but adds just the right amount of extra accent to any ensemble. While the Keyhole tee is a classic white with black graphic- rather risque.

We can’t speak of Publish and not mention another Jogger. The Alexander cut is sleek and a perfect cut for everyday use- and in navy, most likely a frequent go-to pant.

Pants aren’t the only bottoms they do justice. The Forke shorts pop with bright multicolor stripes, featuring an extra front pocket, hidden button back pockets and of course the quill logo embroidery.

All items are now available and already catching the eyes of everyone coming through our doors. Do.not.sleep.

They have carved out a lane of their own and continue to, for lack of better words, just make people look way better! I mean this is fashion right, and if you’re even on this blog reading, you likely care about what you wear, which is a good thing. Putting on any of the pieces Publish offer seem to always ramp up your look for the day, while also assuring that you now have a piece that can hold a place in your closet for the long run.

For starters, if you follow our instagram – you would see Publish Jogger pants throughout the photos. The jogger cut bottoms that Publish has made their staple, continue to be a banger for us, as they are a perfect compliment to your fancy footwork. We’ve brought in the Devington and the Winford which are being stalked, so pick these up if you get your chance.

The array of tops are all classic, with the Beale long sleeve button-down, being a clean chambray top with unique stitch-work. The Hauser is also available as an upgrade to a basic t-shirt. This is made of a slub jersey fabric…buttery soft, with their signature quill logo embroidered on the left chest.

The Artisans United t-shirt is a cool army colored option, and a unique look comes about with the Hobbes Fleece Sweater – a soft, lightweight, french terry sweatshirt feel with an oversized neck opening w/ adjustable drawstrings. Topping things off is 2 gorgeous paisley print Seely 5-Panel caps…spring is looking real good now isn’t it!!

EB’s Staff Picks: Ninja’s “Official Selections”

It is finally my turn at our Extra Butter ‘Official Selections’ Staff Picks. I’m not going to lie, but it was definitely hard to choose these pieces being that so many brands came in with such good holiday collections. I chose burgundy as a main color to collect pieces to put my picks together. Here it goes…
Starting off is the Rhodes Varsity Jacket in black by The Publish Brand. I’m sure many people have noticed how much black is ‘in’ this season. Black goes with almost everything and this jacket is no exception! Next up is the Marshes Snapback by Only NY. Only has been coming up with some dope designs and this hat really stuck out to me. The long sleeve button-up you see is the G.P.P.R. Peralta Shirt in blue chambray. What sticks out to me most about this piece is it’s bones stitching and it’s unique pocket. It adds the extra edge to the plain denim button-up. Talking about the pocket the shiny glasses in them is the Kipling in Translucent Red by Contego Eyewear. When I was looking for an accessory to add to my outfit I thought of these glasses right away to add an additional burgundy highlight.
Moving down to the pants is the 10 Deep Trespass pants. 10 Deep did an awesome job with the quality of these and the small stitching of the crossbones and dog mouth. The inside of the pants features some blue chambray when folded which goes perfectly with the Peralta shirt. Last but not least is the New Balance ML999 in rich burgundy and navy. These feature a pigskin suede and 3M reflective accents and finish the outfit off nicely, adding to the neutral colors and subtle shades.

Publish Holiday 2012 Collection

December 07th, 2012 | Category: Brands,New Arrivals,Publish

While most brands’ patterns and designs work for most occasions, this season calls for a more reserved look, one that Publish certainly offers. Dubbed “The Ceremony”, this line is based on the refined look of military uniforms. Publish combined great craftsmanship with perfect fabric to create a line that’s got you covered head to toe for those cold winter days.

The Yorke Anorak in brown is great in its versatility, making it a great choice for when the weather is that awkward temperature where layers are a must. The Blount Vest in black is another perfect layer compliment. It’s not puffy like most vests of this look, and its chest and waist pockets give you enough place to store all your things.  Underneath the vest is the Vergas shirt.  Their craftsmanship shines on pieces like this, where an idea as simple as a plain black button-up is executed so well.  The Florence Pea Coat goes perfectly over the Vergas as well.  Made entirely of wool, the coat has a great cut that gives it a classic look while maintaining its uniqueness.

The Benny provides a nice change from the usual 5-panel look.  Keeping it simple with an embroided logo on the front, their aesthetic works perfectly on this hat.  The olive Branson jacket is one of the more obviously military themed pieces of the collection.  The M65 inspired look is a perfect example of Publish’s ability to be conservative, but work with all sorts of looks.

While most brands are redefining the varsity jacket in look and material, the Rhodes varsity keeps it classic and does it well.  The cut is just the right fit in order to provide the ability to layer underneath it with a fit look.  The Wright Beanie (also available in red and navy), is a must-have for those winter days where a warmer hat is necessary.  It’s not too heavy, so you won’t be sweating while trying to keep warm.

The only tee from the collection is the Pick Your Poison, and it has enough on it to keep you interested.  Featuring the drink of choice of many famous individuals, it shines light into an interesting aspect of a few notable people.  Over that is the Rosemount cardigan, which screams holiday party!

Publish pieces speak for themselves, so come by the shop and see why they’ve been a staple here.

EB’s Staff Picks: Jay’s “Official Selections”

December 05th, 2012 | Category: Adidas,Brands,Guns Germs $teal,Publish,Stance

Well, well….looks like I’m up to bat.

This has been a fun thing for us at the shop. A long table became empty at the shop while shifting around something and re-merchandising, and thus this little “Staff Picks – Official Selections” feature was born. My cohorts have done a fine job putting their personal favorites together, making for ‘fits, that have been catching people’s eyes and giving a bit more insight to our individual personalities, styles, and tastes. Here are the details for my “official selections”…

I start with my favorite piece currently in the shop – the Low Rider crewneck by one of our newest brands, Guns Germs $teal. I’ve been pining over this since last February when I saw this at the Magic Tradeshow, but when we got our first shipment my size was unavailable (I need to ride my bike more, I know), so instead I was left simultaneous pleased and tortured as I would regularly see my better half, Jacquie rocking this gem regularly. The photo is cinematic and the print process is just unbelievable. Truly nothing like this piece in my closet….my anxiously awaiting closet.

I paired the Low Rider love of my life, with the Rupert Vest from Publish – a piece that honestly, did not catch my eye at first, until I saw it on and watched the garment take shape. A new life was given to this piece as when tried on, one can see it’s versatility off the bat. It appeals on a woodsman-like level, as most vests tend to do, but the tweed shoulder pieces and cozy collar that sit above the brown cotton canvas body give it a Fall/Winter charm that can be dressed up for dinner parties, Holiday festivities, acting as a subtle blend of rustic and refined. Ultimately, the kind of contrast I prefer with my style as I chose to mix it with the striking imagery that covers the Low Rider crewneck.

Sitting directly below would be another Publish piece, the Crewnshaw Denim in solid black. Publish has been the store staple, when dealing with pants as their versatile cuts and overall quality have won us (and many of our customers) over fully. I chose the black for a simple, yet murdered-out statement for what else the outfit offers and speaks. And with no link embedded to the Crewnshaw Denim’s description, I am proud to tell you that it was not an oversight on my part. That piece is fully sold out as today, not only did that pair of pants sitting on the table get picked up, but so did the 2 other piece I previously described. While the pants are gone we’re down to 1 piece left in the crewneck and 2 in the vest. Basically, I’m winning – and so are the stylish folks that picked my picks!

As we journey further down the outfit, I also chose to keep with the murdered out vibe alive with the Jeremy Scott x Adidas Instinct Hi. For Jeremy Scott, this is subtle…but the shoe has a throwback aesthetic and one of the meaner looking shoes to stomp around in for it’s chunkiness, bold branding,  and super simple black/white colorway. I decided to have a little fun with what’s inside as I chose a pair of Cranston polka dot socks with serape-looking stripes by Stance. The Stance socks have turned into an everyday obsession for me, so I highly recommend making the move and treating your feet as soon as possible.

Finally, to top off what took shape as a rustic roughneck outfit of mine, I chose the brand new Marshes Snapback by ONLY. This was an easy choice for me as I’ve always been a fan of camo (regardless of current trend) and I felt it helped tell the overall story of my outfit just right! Thanks for reading…

EB Staff Picks- Amy’s “Official Selection”

November 05th, 2012 | Category: Brands,Look/See,Promotions,Publish,TOMS

Following up on John, aka Pizza’s staff pick of the week, it’s time for my choice. I put together a four piece outfit that is sleek and simple. An outfit perfect for casual or dressy occasions. If you’re looking for something to wear for the upcoming holidays, it’s a nice spice to the usual holiday wear. Although I don’t think it surpasses the ugly Christmas sweaters… but its definitely up there.

Publish’s “Parfitt” long sleeve woven button up has a warm canvas outer with a bit of chambray material on the inside. The grey chambray material gives the button up a nice contrast from the dominating red. Publish always makes their pockets unique so you’ll notice that there is the standard chest pocket with fairly large pockets on each side; where you can put your cell phone, a journal, or maybe even a tablet. Publish’s black “Maltby” cargo pants are made out of ripstop twill and it is a nice classic look with the red button up.

For footwear the Toms Red Sand Knit Men’s classics adds a multi-pattern contrast to the whole outfit, which brings me to another Aztec inspired item, the Look/See “Sun God” sunglasses. Limited to only 100 pairs worldwide, Look/See did a collab with Portland-Based artist Adam R. Garcia. He was inspired to create hand-drawn graphics containing elements and symbols from the Aztec culture for the outer frame. The red color inside of the frames symbolize the human sacrifices that the Aztecs believed would keep the sun rising each day.

EB Staff Picks – Pizza aka Poppa John aka Pizza the Hut’s Official Selections!

October 25th, 2012 | Category: 10Deep,Brands,Nike,Publish

Ladies & Gentlemen, I would like to welcome you to our frequently rotating, smooth, official selection outfit – staff picks! For our first installment, I had the honor to piece together a ‘fit that can be easily used to either go out on a nice night around town or simply just chill with your friends at home. The attire consists of the Publish “Live By” t-shirt plus some of the new 10 Deep fall 2 drop that in my eyes is by far the best that they have done (but that’s just my opinion, cause in all honestly 10 Deep never fails!)

I personally love the whole Native American or “indigenous” look they put out this year so that’s why I flipped when seeing it arrive in-store for us to sell. The very classy and dependable Publish t-shirt lightens up the heavy look. The 10 Deep “Great Plains” khaki pants with it’s tee-pee & tomahawk embroidery is nicely placed throughout the garment. I have personally bought the silver “Murder City” pants from the past, and I can say that for those of you who love your pants not too skinny, but far away from the baggy then this is the one for you since the “Great Plains” pants fit exactly the same as the “Murder City” ones (really good).

Now we move on to the all-over quill printed t-shirt by Publish. I just caught on myself that this shirt unwillingly matches with the theme that 10 Deep came out with as the similarities between Publish’s quill famously representing their timeless style, and the feather tie in well with the bison’s horn seen on the 10 Deep pieces. The shirt has a sense of class but not one that strays too far away from a piece that can be rocked in the streets with it’s company name written across the red banner.

Next is the 10 Deep Bison Varsity Jacket and Victory Chieftains hat (it’s a snapback but when I was growing up it was referred to as a hat so I’m bringing the term back lol!). One can argue that the satin material on the varsity jacket gives the red a slightly brighter look than the hat itself but in my eyes you can’t go wrong with the jacket that is out for this season period, plus you got the hat that has that old-school, shark-fin look to it that gives it that touch of sportsmanship. To bring it all together there is a bison logo and the “Chieftain” wording respectively placed on the front and back of both pieces. Now what’s this whole look without the kicks right?! You can lock this whole look down with the Nike Air Speed Turf Max still available in-store or take it a step out of the ordinary with the Nike Air Max Terra Sertig. Whether it’s too much going on or not enough I find this whole steez to be well placed together and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
