10 Deep Spring 13 – Delivery 1

March 18th, 2013 | Category: 10Deep,Brands,New Arrivals,Now Playing...

Welcome to Spring in New York! An unbelievable array of temperatures over the course of these past few weeks, as if us New Yorkers haven’t had it bad enough through the Fall and Winter. Can we just have ourselves some Spring??

Regardless of the elements at hand, while yes, dead in the middle of March we had snow coming down, but that didn’t stop us from taking some shots of the new 10 Deep Spring collection, which we all know are perfect any time, place, and season. Thanks to our friend Kevin (who you can add on instagram here) - a fellow 10 Deep hound himself, for trekking through our forest to give the pieces a try in the photos below.

There’s lots more to the collection as you could see on our webstore, but we decided to highlight some of the pieces in the photos below, such as the Black Woodland Rose “Murder City Pants”, the “Elbows In Buttondown” in their new seasonal “Nite Vision” custom camo, the highly anticipated “Nitefall Hoody” w/ the green tiger camo gradient, plus more!

Seen Recently: Stoker & Headhunters

March 17th, 2013 | Category: Now Playing...,Seen Recently

This week has been a good week movie-wise. I know we don’t report here too much about what we’ve seen, but figured the past 2 films are definitely worth mentioning.

I’ll start with HEADHUNTERS or “Hodejegerne” – a Norwegian thriller that I had originally seen when it was in theatres and finally got around to it on my queue and bringing it into the shop for an after hours movie session mid-week.

I hope you’re not adverse to reading subtitles (you do read on your phone all day don’t you?), as I mentioned earlier, the film is Norwegian, but hopefully not a deterrent to checking it out. The main character, Roger Brown, evokes an “American Psycho”-esque, Patrick Bateman kind of feel, as a headhunter who moonlights as an art thief. Needless to say, his famous works of art heists end up getting him into some sticky situations as they’re ultimately responsible for him and his wife’s lavish lifestyle. The movie is intense and engaging, with some wild absurdity along the way. There are a few scenes that continue to be a topic of conversation several days past viewing. Headhunters is available on Netflix and it’s definitely worth the watch if you find yourself with some time in the evening while the nights are still cold.

We also saw Stoker last night at Malverne Cinema, but it was my second go around for this as I also had the pleasure of watching it at Bam Rose Cinemas in Brooklyn when it first came out. The director, Chan-Wook Park, is one of my favorites. I became first enamored by his signature way of shooting and well-woven story lines with his “revenge trilogy” – Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Lady Vengeance. Add Thirst, to the list of films that had me hooked, I’ve been waiting for Park’s first American film since I saw the trailer close to a year ago.

Again, if you’re silly and against movies with subtitles, Stoker, may be the way to go as American audiences will now be familiarized with a great representation of Chan-Wook Park’s directing style. Every scene in Stoker is cinematic, to the point where I tell people that you can pause the film at random at the shot would look good enough to be blown up and made a poster of.

The trailer has people thinking their in for a horror film, and the film’s tagline – “Do Not Disturb The Family”, isn’t a fair representation either. The movie is not only gorgeous to the eye, but has an elegant dialogue, and incredible psychological parallel going on between characters, and shown to the audience in an unmatched aesthetic. An EB movie night will almost certainly be taking place once it hits DVD, but do yourself a favor and check it in the theatre so you can appreciate every second of the film’s amazing acoustics and on screen visuals.

Adidas x Jeremy Scott S/S 13 Collection

March 15th, 2013 | Category: Adidas,Brands,New Arrivals,Now Playing...

In addition to the Adidas x Jeremy Scott Infants collection we previewed early this week, we also have adult pairs and apparel set to release tomorrow – Saturday, March 16th.

To show off the collection we had the pleasure of shooting our friend Kenzie Gallo in the gear. The apparel pieces in play are the “Leopard Hood”, a throw-over, shawl/hood piece that works wonderful as an accent accessory. We also received the “Face Swimsuit”, an eye-catcher and something that captures the Jeremy Scott aesthetic well for the beach, or even paired with some shorts and worn as a top.

Footwear-wise, the bear silhouette makes it’s return, this time all cover as the “Camo Bear”, which is being regarded as the best reiteration of the “bear” model to date. Also, receiving high acclaim would be the new Wings 2.0 – a black/patent iridescent version, which can be dressed up rather well, and turn heads with the subtle color changing going on as the shoe is viewed in different lights. A slide is back in the mix for the warmer months ahead, this time as the JS Flames Slide – an easy go to for the summer!

Big buttery thanks to Kenzie for doing her thing and making these unique pieces look even better! Also, be sure you follow her instagram & facebook!

The Adidas x Jeremy Scott “Camo Bear”, “Wings 2.0″, and “Flame Slide” will be available tomorrow in-store and online.

Color Creature LIVE at the Post-Apocalypse Acoustic Show!

February 24th, 2013 | Category: Events,Now Playing...,Speaker Leak,Things to do in RVC

Another video? We might as well right…we’re stretching these out as we continue to rejoice the amazing night this was. But getting to it, since then, my love for this band has grown tremendously. I didn’t want to come off as a homer, as this is another project that features our superstar – TK on guitar, but I’ve already been won over by the group’s first release – “Kissing Daisies” by Kira Metcalf. The formation of Color Creature is an exciting thing as they continue to work on new music (3 demo tracks that can be heard and downloaded here) and play shows like the one featured in the video below, and an awesome show they have this Thursday 2/28 at Ollie’s Point opening up for Vacationer!!

With many tracks of theirs already dear to me, the first one that got me was the one in the video below – “An Epidemic”. Give it a spin below and head to the links in the text above to learn about this talented band that I think will be making a lot of good noise in the near future!

Air Jordan: Retro 3 & Retro 1 – ‘Night Vision’

February 20th, 2013 | Category: Air Jordan,Brands,New Arrivals,Now Playing...

As many who have followed Jordan’s basketball career would know, the G.O.A.T. was a difficult top tier player to defend. By the time whoever was guarding Michael found an opportunity to get the ball away from him, it was too late. He would penetrate the defense and score on a consistent basis. What the blogs have already donned as “The Joker”, was actually inspired by MJ’s ability to see through defensive plays. For example to run past them,  score himself or help his team execute a play to place them in a vantage point to score. Giving an imagery of the opposing team being covered in a shroud of darkness. Michael Jordan has the ability to see through the darkness, hence “Night Vision”. Given it’s two popular Jordan retro models, the execution could have been a hit or miss, but the color blocking came out on point. Both the Air Jordan Retro 1 & Air Jordan Retro 3 command respect and scream for attention during the day with how well the purple sits with the electric green on a predominantly black upper… reminiscent to the Dark Knight’s Arch Nemesis. With it’s ability to pop under black-light from the pictures below, these will definitely have people’s heads turning and talking about them in any event that has the special lighting.

*Sizes still available (First come, First serve)

Introducing the work of Matthew Reid

January 20th, 2013 | Category: Now Playing...

If you’ve been paying attention to our twitter & instagram, or most importantly, been by the shop recently, you likely noticed the new mural inside our “showroom”. That work of art was done by our friend, Matthew Reid.

The wall was done a few pieces at a time over the course of a week, but I’m not sharing the pictures below just to show those of you haven’t seen how it looks completed. I’m highlighting the piece to let you know that Matthew’s work, and even greater personality has had a rather profound effect on us at the shop. This has been especially evident this past week where we have not seen him as much, but don’t worry…this is not the last we work with him.

While his work has served as a new source of mystery and wonder, Matthew’s spirit has been very warming and uplifting to us all – as we’ve all gotten to know him during his time with us when he’s not fully lost in his work. We’re so fortunate to have crossed paths, as everyone that has either gotten to know him or have really given this piece a solid look, have come away with positive feelings and loads of inspiration. To have this incredible piece pictured below as part of the shop’s soul is truly a blessing.

In addition to the site linked to his name earlier, I suggest you discover more on Matthew Reid’s Facebook Page.
