World Basketball Festival NYC - Part 3
Here’s the last of the footage…the majority of the photos are of the “Make Something” experience, which was probably the best thing I saw the entire trip. It is located on Bowery and Houston, and I don’t think it’s open to the public, but if you can weasel your way in there, I highly suggest doing so.
Nike, Air Jordan, and Converse teamed up with artists Aaron Rose, Eric Elms, Carrie Mundane (Cassette Playa), Todd Selby, DJ A-trak, and others on creating this space that gave teenagers from the NY area a truly unique experience. The artists conducted workshops, teaching the kids a variety of creative acitivities such as music editing, sign painting, poster drawing, plus clothing and sneaker design!
The space was littered with all the artwork and some actual products were sampled and produced as well, such as the Nike Destroyer Varsity Jackets, Converse All-stars, and Nike Hyperdunks.
The kids worked on a unique hybrid shoe that fused sneaker elements from the Nike, Jordan, and Converse brand…truly one of a kind.

Here are some other things I had the pleasure of doing during my NYC stay for the WBF…
The hardcore NBA fans are familiar with my man Kevin Durant right here. I have to admit, it was hard to like the guy at first considering I’m a Blazers fan (we picked Oden instead). But, this truly one of the brightest young stars in the NBA today and has a nice young nucleus in Oklahoma City that looks to be making noise for many upcoming seasons.
Check this short video clip where I asked him about his favorite kicks…

Rucker Park was just incredible - this was after halftime of the Brazil vs. Puerto Rico exhibition game.

After the Team USA inter-squad exhibition game….HOVAAAA!

So I’m back from a dream week in NYC for my coverage of the World Basketball Festival. From those following the Extra Butter tweets, you would have seen that I was quite busy. Over the next few days I will release some more flicks and footage in a 3-part series for you to get a more in depth look.
I have to thank my friends at Sneaker Freaker for this opportunity - please check the wrap-up I did for their site here.
In this post I will highlight some of the features in Harlem. Uptown was bubbling with all sorts of things to get your basketball juices flowing, so have a look.
Inside “The Ballroom” was a historic look at the evolution of jerseys, game balls, and of course sneakers. There were also interactive flat screen monitors to give a closer look at not just sneakers, but players and their signature moves - which the video will show you below.

Jordan Brand was fully present of course well with superstars Chris Paul and D. Wade appearing at House of Hoops, and a full Jordan Brand “For the Love of the Game” installation, down the street at Atmos.

On Friday night we had the pleasure of attending the world premier of the “Air Force 1: Anatomy of an Urban Legend” documentary. A truly incredible film and star-studded affair, the evening was surreal to say the least.

No commentsBBQ BASH at Longhorns, RVC - RECAP!
Last week, along with Milk & Honey we co-hosted a little BBQ BASH party at Longhorns - our favorite Bbq saloon/restaurant. Word on the street is, that while it was the first, it won’t be the last…but since you missed out when you shouldn’t have…SuperDoc Munz came through to rescue you with some pics for your viewing pleasure.
See, there he is now. Mr. Munz himself, cold chillin’ with our lady friends from CW Post. He’ll be the first to tell you (along with our whole crew here), but he STAYS in an ONLY NY snapback (more coming soon by the way!). Caitlin looks like she’s grabbing his shirt or something, which was a favorite that night - “Rappers Lie, Emcee’s Don’t”.

Did I tell you D’s my favorite photographer?? Well I’m telling you now…look, he even catches me looking like I’m on some official shit. But really, a nickname I’d joke around with in college is DJ Pushbutton…basically, I’m not doing all that much. But I made it work! By the way…that’s a new shirt from the Mishka Summer collection (perhaps my favorite ever), you should come through and check the rest before it’s gone.

LOOK! I even got these folks to dance…or did I? Was it the Metronomy and Hot Chip I was playing, or was it DJ Tezo, bumping all sorts of hip-hop. He took it back, forward, left, right…

I take away the credit I gave myself for making the party people party, and slide it to this man…DJ TEZO! Gangsta t-shirt, he is a With Cheese Please cheesesteak murderer.

Munz just makes us look good. Check out our own Roose helping someone out with a light. The guy could be a friend, he could be a stranger…it don’t matter, Roose is for the people.

Christina looks like she could also be a good Samaritan, giving someone directions. But that’s not a someone, that’s Elizabeth also from Milk & Honey, and they’re most likely talking about their plans to take over the world. Milk & Honey is doing it…trust us. Oh and shouts to Eileen and Sycko in the back creepin’!

Visit the ANYAKNODIZ site for the rest of D’s photos… and thanks to everyone else who came through and the Longhorns staff for being awesome all night!!

1 commentMotivation of a Sneaker Freaker
Last month we had the honor of partying with Sneaker Freaker’s own crazy Aussie - MAFIA!
DJ’s Mick Boogie, Terry Urban, and Matt Heckman all held the crowd down with incredible sets, but still leaving room for Mafia to get behind the wheels and spin her own madness.
YO!MAFIA just launched her new site that you can check out by clicking –> HERE. Make sure you peep her “CHEKI” section of poloroids, some of which you’ll see hinted below…
And once again the one and only Doc Munz of www.anyaknodiz.com with fresh photos from the event - thank you fam!

Thanks again to everyone who participated and came down to Gallery Bar NYC to floss and support!!

1 commentSneakerCon Recap
SneakerCon was this past Saturday - just wanted to share some photos from the event and thank the fellas at SneakerNews for having us down!
Tons of people and sneakers…wet dream for some, overwhelming to others. Solid turnout though and lots of fresh kicks…

Like these. I’m not an Air Force guy, I only own 1 pair…but I am filipino, and should have never past on these when they first came out and they were just sitting there at GDFT, Montreal. I don’t have too many regretted pass ups….but this is surely one of them.

Flight Lites were one of my things as a kid. I liked to ball in them and squish the foamy parts that are carved out on the mid-sole. I’ve never seen this color which was kind of craze…

This was the best table there in my opinion. OG heat for days. A nice change from the typical Jordans, Air Max’s, and SB’s I saw dominating most tables and carried amongst the attendees. Nothing wrong with all of that, but this table offered a dope variety that provided a bit of true nostalgia. Not the type that’s reminisced about, yet they only dropped 5 years ago.

Like these…welcome to Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood! These were my size too…this is one I hope Nike retros and I think they eventually will. I never got them when I was a kid, instead I had an Admiral jacket by Chalkline. The ad campaign for these were some of Nike’s finest.

What you know about Spot Bilt? You’ll know soon enough. But these are a gem…taking me back to the days of Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, and of course Joe Montana. Giants version of these anyone???

I was never into the Kaws craze, but pretty cool collection from Toy Tokyo.

This is T. He calls us everyday. EVERY DAY! Haha it’s all good though, we see the passion, and I see my 2nd favorite Met of all time… Daaaaaaaaa-ryllllllllllll. Please someone get me this jersey - grey color also accepted.

Everybody loves stickersssss

Back to the shoes. I wore these Adidas Jeremy Scott 3-tongues. Adidas was there showcasing some goodies due out later this summer. I decided to be a pal and snap some photos for you to see some of what’s in store for you! Click on the “read more” below to get an exclusive look at some of the Adidas “O by O” Fall releases…

1 commentMother’s Day Weekend Movie Night
This Friday night - May 7th at 9pm, MOVIE NIGHT is back with a double-feature for Mother’s Day Weekend.
Our friend Jacquie had the idea of showing one of her favorite movies, “Dead Alive” - an early 90’s campy horror flick directed by Peter Jackson (before the whole Lord of the Rings thing) with the Mother’s Day theme in mind. I wanted to give my spin to the evening as well, so I chose the french-horror film “Inside” to match up with the mommy-theme. If you haven’t seen either of them you’re in for a treat, as our demented minds think these movies will make for good Mother’s Day spirit.
