Magic Madness by Kevin Nicholas – Friday, May 18th

I’m pretty sure it’s Neptune ruling my sign as a Pisces, that is responsible for my love for magic. When I go to Vegas, besides seeing my friends/family, eating, and the Magic Trade shows…I actually really look forward to actual magic. Whether it be by show at one of the casinos, or one of the cool little magic shops like Houdini’s or the other one at Stratosphere. I usually cop a trick or two, amaze myself, maybe a few others, but ultimately leave it to the real magicians to blow my mind.

Last March I attended a magic show called “Strange Things” at the Mishka, 350 Broadway shop. Matt Holtzclaw and Prakash Puru left a crowd of us stupefied with the tricks and bizarre things they performed. With our magician friend, Kevin Nicholas frequenting the shop and bending our minds back and forth, I was excited for the opportunity to bring the element of magic into our Extra Butter world. So as you already have seen in the video we posted last week, we are bringing Kevin Nicholas and his “Magic Madness” to Extra Butter live – this Friday, May 18th 2012 at 9:30pm!!

Anyone attending will be in for a very intimate and unique experience, sure to screw with your world. We ask that everyone please arrive on time, and log onto our facebook event page and let us know you’ll be there for the madness!

COP SHOP Reunion!!

May 13th, 2012 | Category: Coming Soon...,Events,Now Playing...,Speaker Leak

I’ll keep this really simple. If you’re from or live on Long Island and don’t know the Cop Shop, you are missing out on a significant part of hip-hop history. From 2000 to 2009, this was the premiere spot for getting the very best of the real…REAL hip hop. All your vinyl, cd needs were met along with goodies galore whenever you’d shop there. Eddie of the Cop Shop, is practically a legend. People that come by Extra Butter tend to comment on the hip-hop pouring through our speakers, which leads to great conversations. 10 times out of 10, people not only mention their love for the Cop Shop, but also it’s owner – Eddie. Eddie was the soul of the cop shop, running things in a professional and genuine manner that everyone always mentions how much they appreciate, and for me…something I always looked up to and admired.

And as if you even needed more, the Cop Shop put on FREE shows regularly…on Long Island, bringing you the true legends of hip-hop from the old school to the underground. Repeat – free shows regularly on Long Island, brought to you by the Cop Shop. I used to love going to the shop and breaking my neck to look at all the signed posters, album covers, and other promo gear Eddie had signed by hip-hop’s greats.

The reunion show is this Saturday May 19th, 2012. The flyer below has the all-star line-up and as always, you can bet your hip hop dollar that there will be other goodies in-store as well. Be sure to log onto the Cop Shop Reunion’s Facebook page for more info!

Introducing: Kevin Nicholas

We’ve got a great clientele here at the shop…the best! Through the years we’ve had the pleasure of engaging in awesome conversations about food, movies, Dexter, sports, and of course kicks. But we’ve also been lucky enough to receive our fair share of gifts – donuts, strawberry coolatas, Darryl Strawberry signed baseballs, giant pears, plush toys from Space Jam, and more. Perhaps the strangest, or maybe most frustrating gifts, come from our friend Kevin Nicholas. Kevin comes by from time to time and does magic tricks and illusions that leave us stunned, perplexed, pissed off, and in endless wonder of how the !#&# did he do that!?!?!

Peep the video below that Christian shot over time during Kevin’s visits here to get a little taste of what he’s got up his sleeve. And as the end of the video suggests – mark your calendars – Friday, May 18th – and be prepared for some magic madness!!

Hoddy the Young Jedi: Organized Bullshit – Trailer #1

May 04th, 2012 | Category: Coming Soon...,Events,Speaker Leak

If you’ve been following our twitter, we’ve been posting up some “Extra Butter Spring 12 Official Selection” looks of the newest gear – #EBSpring12OS – and lucky enough we had our friend Hoddy come by the other day and jump in a photo here. Hoddy stopped by the shop to talk about “F Hot Pockets” and a whole lot of other comedy, but most importantly…Organized Bullshit – his new album dropping later this month. It looks like May is the Young Jedi’s month and this is just a tease of what should be an interesting month….

We’re burger lovers too…

Reebok x Ciroc event at the Royalton Hotel

April 10th, 2012 | Category: Brands,Events,Reebok

Our friends over at Reebok invited us out to the exquisite Royalton Hotel last week for a little something something they were doing with Ciroc. Bam, Christian, and I went out – got to catchup with some friends in the industry and peep some product as well. The penthouse space over at the Royalton was rather fancy, but nothing beat the wall display that had our “Sheriff” and “Ahchoo” Pump collabs hanging atop.  Thanks again to everyone hitting us up rocking “Ahchoo” or repping “Sheriff Gang”, and of course a big shout out and thank you over to everyone at Reebok again!!

Extra Butter x Reebok “Sheriff” Pump OXT Release Recap!

The SHERIFF is officially in town! In many towns as a matter of fact as our online release Saturday morning sent pairs all over the world. Let me just mention – we LOVED seeing everyone who had ordered the “Ahchoo’s” and came back to make sure to complete the set. Thank you to everyone who got their pair and did part in freaking me out by crashing the site for a bit again!

This recap post here, is going to give you a glimpse of the in-store release that took place. Ever since opening, the shop has taken on a special life of it’s own at night, and last Friday night was indicative yet again, of the night time magic that takes place when we do special events like this. Customers from near and far queued up, and from as much as I’ve been able to catch up on so far, a lot of you guys and girls got along! I see the tweets, photo sharing, networking, etc. The Butter team is super proud of that, especially with the kind of lineup horror stories you hear these days, the fact that you all had a blast and made new friends – that’s what it’s all about!!

We’re ecstatic to see everyone representing and wearing either the “Sheriff’s” or “Ahchoo’s” – please be sure to facebook, twitter, tumblr, and instagram us with your work!! #SheriffGang shots we’ve been seeing are looking mean!

Big buttery thank you to everyone who made this happen – Bam, Karl, Ryan, Tai, Cam, DJ Tezo for holding us down, the extraordinary EB team, everyone at Reebok that were so awesome to work with, Sheriff Ahchoo, and of course you – all of you who’ve been supporting us, holding us down, and spreading butter all day everyday! Let the rest of 2012 be amazing for us all!

SHERIFF – Extra Butter x Reebok Pump OXT Release Info!

Looks like there’s a new sheriff in town! At the end of December, when our “Ahchoo” Pump AXT took to the world, only half the story was told. See, this was a pack that we here took it upon ourselves to have some fun in telling a story. The story of “Ahchoo” from Mel Brooks’ “Robin Hood Men in Tights” and his adventures with Robin’s men that landed him with the new job as “Sheriff”. The story is our tribute to inspirations from our youth – Dave Chappelle and the Reebok Pump. Both icons in their respected cultures, “Ahchoo” has joined their ranks…and now it’s time for the “Sheriff”!!

The “SHERIFF” Extra Butter x Reebok Pump OXT will be releasing in-store -

KAFE KING Event – Incalculable by Alysia Mazzella & Mike Baker the Bike Maker Performance

February 05th, 2012 | Category: Events,Now Playing...,Speaker Leak,Things to do in RVC

Last week we had yet another Kafe King event at the shop, and this may have been my favorite. Each Kafe King event is curated with the help of Quan Luv of Visions.18, Konogo Mix, and A.L.I.E.N. NYC. This event captured the essence of what I thought the “dopest ‘kafe’ in the world” would encompass. There was live music, poetry, dancing, snacking, goodpeople, good chatter, and of course movies!

Honestly, a dream of mine was opening this shop, but a dream within that dream – like on some high level of Inception type shit, was the vision that the shop would house after hours events that would bring the highest & first quality when it comes to energy, ideas, creativity, and of course people. Each and every event, meeting, or just hang out session here embody all of that, and it’s a backbone of sorts to what makes Extra Butter soooo butter!

When I first went from watching movies to being into movies I had discovered the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington Village. I learned a little bit about how the theatre got started and with that independent, unorthodox, and kind of make-shift spirit in mind, I always wanted Extra Butter to be a place to hold gatherings to show films. To host films made by friends of the community we’ve developed at the shop takes things a step further, and we had the pleasure of showing our first independent short film, “Incalculable” by Alysia Mazzella.

Now I’m hearing that last Saturday may have been the last screening of “Incalculable” so you’ll have to lurk the interwebs and hope the vimeo pops up one day. BUT, Alysia also brought another goodie for us…a video interview on Stevens “Quan Luv” Calixte (already aforementioned)…chock full of great visuals, and something to watch/listen to over and over and take notes on. We have the pleasure of sharing that video here with you below, and more photos of the event, which – not to be forgotten – also included a performance by Mike Baker the Bike Maker!! Mike’s been on a tear now that he’s on the east coast, so he is a must check for his live vibe. *We have a few more FREE copies of Mike Baker the Bike Maker’s “Mike Plays it Cool” mixtape at the shop for anyone that wants to scoop one up!*

Anyway, endless buttery thanks to all that came through and made this special night happen…be very sure to support all the artists and talents involved, and look out for much much more!
