Unless you’re a hip-hop nerd like myself, you may not be aware of New Jersey’s strong hip-hop lineage. From the late 80′s to the golden age, hip-hop icons such as Queen Latifah, Redman, and Artifacts put New Jeruz (as El Da Sensei likes to say) on the map. Fast-forward to modern day and you will see the same thing happening with the Garden State’s very own art/fashion/hip-hop collective, Jersey Klan, at the forefront.

Last Saturday night Extra Butter was lucky enough to have the Klan (OGM, Moruf, Hoddy, J. Philippe & more) come through for an intimate in-store performance celebrating the release of OGM’s new album, “Kool Kidz of Kolor”. If it wasn’t clear already, these guys are the real deal. Even when rapping in front of a small audience, these guys spit like the entire state of Jersey is on their back, with an energy and passion that seems to be a dying trait in today’s game.

Those who aspire to be in the game should start taking notes, but for now here’s some photographs of the Klan in action.

… and I swear a Metalfinger’s sample never sounded so good! Much respect to the whole crew.

It’s that time again…and while I know I probably said that in a few other blog posts over the past year, but it’s REALLY that time again – the most exciting time of the year, our 4 year Anniversary!!

With all the holiday sneaker heat rolling in on the blog last week, in addition to the Fall/Winter apparel that was featured in our “Official Selections Fall 2011″ Lookbook (Part 1, 2, & 3), the shop is full of goodies to grab a hold of. For our lady friends who might be unfamiliar, Milk & Honey is only a few stores down and is well stocked with unique dresses, outerwear, jewelry, accessories, and more – so don’t worry about having to sit around while the guys try on shoe after shoe.

So when you cut out of work on Friday, have a nice dinner but save room for a Late Night Dairy Fix – those perfect holiday outfits are waiting for you as they will be on sale for this one night only event!!

I had the pleasure of attending OGM and Jersey Klan’s performance at the Afro Punk show at Williamsburg Music Hall last week, and you should know…this will be a performance you best not miss. Oh, and he’s bringing that JUICE!

For the next installment of Movie Night, we thought it’d be a good idea to carry on tradition by taking a trip to see the critically-acclaimed Paranormal Activity 3. Early indications have PA3 slated as an instant classic, leaving audiences deeply disturbed and with some sleeping difficulties. That’s the word on the street at least. We’ll have to decide for ourselves before giving it the Butter stamp of approval…

So get your popcorn ready for Fridy the 28th and join us at AMC Loews Fantasy in RVC for some good ole supernatural fun!!

This week’s movie night will bring a little something extra to the table. We join forces yet again, with our friends from Visions.18 and A.L.I.E.N. NYC for a one of a kind evening as we screen “TALES FROM THE HOOD” – part of a 3-part series called THUG.LIFE.

Adding some fun to the mix, we encourage everyone to dress with the “THUG.LIFE.” attire/costume in mind…and there just may be some prizes for the best dressed thugs of the night.

After an awesome turnout and event to the thriller of last week’s “I Saw the Devil”, this SATURDAY – October 15th, we’ll be holding a DOUBLE FEATURE screening at 10pm!!

“The Collector” and “May” will be the 2 movies shown this week as they come highly recommended via BamLaRoc, so these are sure to be twisted. There’s nothing better than being cooped up at the shop for a double feature on a spooky Saturday night so bring what you need to be comfortable and prepare for a good one!
