EXTRA BUTTER HIGHLIGHTS NYC SUBWAY SERIES FANDOM WITH LATEST ADIDAS COLLABORATION
Design inspiration taken from throwback hockey jerseys.
Extra Butter, partners with Adidas Consortium on a pack of the retro Rivalry shoe model, storytelling the rivalry between New York’s hockey fandom. The two colorways are inspired by both New York hockey team’s throwback 90’s jerseys, designed with meticulous details that speak directly to avid hockey fans.
“Though hockey may not be as influential as basketball, hockey jerseys were a staple in 90’s streetwear,” recalls Extra Butter creative director, Bernie Gross. “Coincidentally, 1996 was a year that both NY hockey teams introduced new alternative jerseys and although neither were long-lived, both have grown cult followings. When we learned that Adidas was bringing the Rivalry out from the vault, I thought it could be a clever play on the shoe’s namesake to highlight my friends' playful banter repping their respective New York teams.”
Each of the Extra Butter x Adidas Rivalry features a premium suede and pebbled leather upper and a vintage washed tongue and outsole. The shoes are packed with details that speak directly to the source hockey inspiration. The iconic striping utilizes sport mesh and finished with zig zag stitching, reminiscent of classic fabrication of hockey jerseys and its patches. The heel panels feature graphic embellishment that tie back to throwback New York hockey jerseys. The tongue’s woven label showcases a retro’d “Rivalry Series” graphic, while the interior of the label features a stylized Extra Butter team banner graphic. The footbed insoles can be flipped upside down to reveal a hidden graphic that speaks directly to the New York hockey rivalry, references chants each team fan base use to banter with the other team. Finally each colorway comes equipped with additional team color laces for additional personalization.
