The film follows a Memphis pimp aspiring to break into the rap scene, a forecast of what would become the rise of the independent artist like the SoundCloud rappers of the past decade. The movie also gave the mainstream audience a look into one of pockets of southern rap that grew in popularity during the early 2000’s that produced a multitude of party anthems.
