New York brand Extra Butter returns to its roots by opening their second location in Long Island City, Queens. The new boutique is located at 22-03 Jackson Avenue in the historic PS1 building adjacent to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). This will be the second NYC location for the Lower East Side based Extra Butter.
“Most of us who have been with the brand since day one grew up in Queens, the world’s borough, so this is like a homecoming,” says co-founder, Ankur Amin. “My brother Nick and I started working at my uncle’s sneaker store on Queens Blvd back in the 80’s and to now bring Extra Butter to Queens almost 40 years later is an important milestone forus.”
The aesthetics of the 3,000 sq foot shop follow the DNA of Extra Butter’s Lower East Side location: clean, minimal interiors with a nod to the brand’s love for cinema. The new space also features the EB Concessions, a curation of rare and vintage colas, candies and Extra Butter popcorn, a signature feature that was first introduced in 2007.
New to the Extra Butter experience is The Infamous, a 1930’s inspired speakeasy bar offering unique craft beers and top-shelf libations. In an effort to contribute to the rich artistic history of Long Island City, Extra Butter will provide exterior mural space nestled between the storefront and the PS1 Building to collaborate with artists to continue bringing stories to life. The brand will also use this new location to continue its tradition of producing talk panels and workshops.
“This neighborhood has history, says Extra Butter creative director, Bernie Gross. “From the 5Pointz graffiti mecca, to MoMA PS1, to the other number of independent galleries, our mission is to use our platform to inspire and empower the local creative."
